Expansion
A New Era
The story began in 1981 when James N Foss, fondly known as 'Big Jim,' founded a business dedicated to buying and selling livestock. His unwavering commitment to fair trade and building trust with farmers set the foundation for future success.
In 2007, Jim's son Craig and his wife Maria took the reins, significantly expanding the business in Alden, New York. Specializing in cattle and calves, they transformed it into a modern brokerage, continuing Big Jim’s legacy while adapting to the evolving market.
In 2024, Foss Livestock officially formed its buying station—Foss Livestock Buying Station LLC—family-owned by two generations of the Foss family: Craig, Maria, Nick, and Leah Foss. Together, they carry the family tradition, ensuring only the best for farmers and buyers.

Nick manages the calf division, forging strong relationships with buyers across the East Coast. He’s known for his relentless commitment to securing the best deals for farmers, even going as far as visiting farms to pick up calves himself.
